The beautiful Kangra Valley starts near Mandi, runs north, then bends west and extends to Shahpur near Pathankot. To the north the Valley is flanked by the Dhaula Dhar range, to the side of which clings Dharamsala. There are number of places of interest along the valley, including Mc Leodganj, home of Dalai Lama and headquarters of the Tibetan Government in Exile. The main Pathankot to Manali road runs through the Valley, and there is a narrow gauge railway line from Pathankot as far as Joginder Nagar. The Kangra School of painting developed in this valley.
