Paonta Shaib

On the Uttar Pradesh border is the uninteresting town of Paonta Sahib. Dedicated to the 10th Sikh guru, Gobind Singh, who lived there between the age of 16 and 20, the town's Gurudwara is an impressive place, right on the river. During the Holi and Baisakhi festivals in March and April, the temple overflows with pilgrims. Inside the temple is a small museum dedicated to Gobind Singh. Rules for entry are the same for all.

Sikh temples: bring a head covering(or borrow one from a counter on the right at the temple entrances), take off your shoes (leave them at a counter on the left at the temple entrances), and wash your feet before entering.

Paonta Sahib is a small place comes under the Sirmour district of Himachal Pradesh. This is sacred place to Sikhs and famous industrial town too. Chemichals, textiles, pharmaceuticals and cements are the major industries here in Paonta sahib.The famous huge Gurudwara is located on the banks of river Yamuna and river Yamuna also forms the boundary between the states of Himachal Pradesh & Uttarakhand Pradesh.

This Gurudwara is linked with the Sikh's 10th Guru, Guru Gobind Singh. It is believed to be said that Guru Gobind Singh's horse stopped here at this place and he had decided to stay here.Apart from just a Gurudwara, you can visit museum inhouses having all antiques and other stuffs used by Guru Gobind Singh like weapons etc.
